1 # Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee Charter
3 The Alexandria Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) holds
4 regular meetings open to the public on the third Monday of the
5 month. The meetings are usually held the third Monday of each month
6 from 7:00PM-9:00PM at the Durant Center (1605 Cameron Street,
10 **Mission Statement:** To provide citizen input in planning and
11 programming bicycle and pedestrian improvements and in promoting
12 bicycling and walking in the city of Alexandria.
16 * To provide citizen input in planning bicycle trails, bicycle
17 parking and bicycle street access in Alexandria.
19 * To promote bicycle and pedestrian safety, education, use, and
22 * To inform the City Council, staff, and citizens about bicycling
23 and pedestrian issues that affects the citizens of Alexandria.
25 * To provide citizen input in the planning, review and
26 implementation process for transportation projects in and around
29 * To forge links with other citizen advisory committees and
30 commissions in Alexandria, as well as in neighboring communities,
31 that share issues common to bicycling and walking in Alexandria.
33 * To work with the Alexandria city staff including the Bicycle and
34 Pedestrian Coordinator to achieve these goals.
36 **Membership:** The Committee will include up to 15 voting
37 members. The Committee membership should reflect the make-up of the
38 Alexandria bicycling and pedestrian community. The committee should
39 also include at least one member representing an Alexandria bike
40 shop or the local bicycling industry. Members who miss three
41 consecutive meetings may be removed from the Committee. New members
42 will be appointed by the Committee Chair. All meetings will be open
43 to attendance by the public.
