Thanks for the steer to this web page.  It looks like a bunch of people 
are using these retired satellite antennas/LNAs for the sun and moon. 
An added target is people.  Humans generate enough signal to be 
detected.  However, as Bob Bruninga suggests, most of the sky will be 
too low in energy to pick up. (Thanks to Bob for his contribution to the 

Nonetheless, it is rather useful for school demonstrations, hamfest 
demonstrations etc.  All in all, I am happy with my newfound gear.  It 
should perform somewhat better than old Direct TV gear.
